Gundappa Viswanath, born on February 12, 1949, in Bhadravathi, Karnataka, India, is a former Indian cricketer and one of India’s finest middle-order batsmen. Affectionately known as “Vishy,” he made his Test debut on November 15, 1969, and became a prolific run-scorer for India during the 1970s and early 1980s.
Gundappa Viswanath was a stylish and elegant batsman, known for his impeccable timing and classic strokes. He was renowned for his ability to handle both pace and spin bowling with equal ease, making him a formidable batsman in all conditions. Vishy was part of the famous Indian batting lineup of his era, alongside Sunil Gavaskar and Mohinder Amarnath.
